Nice to see things made backtrackable, but I just discovered that when backtracking through Ground Floor, it's all one-way. You can go back all the way to the start... but then you can't go back forward to where you left off.

In Ground Floor 2N 1E, if you reenter from the stairs, the scripting doesn't let you out.

That said, I really like both this and the sequel - actually, I played this through back when it first came out (only doing about 75% secrets) and after mastering #2 I figured I'd come back and finish this one up... except, well, yeah. :~(

(Btw: If there's a prefered method for posting 'general hold' questions on the solutions board, let me know and I'll direct this there instead - as that seems more suited for room specific, however, figured I'd try here first).

this hold was fun. I liked it. I liked the story atomosphere. I absolutely adored the "challenges" level.

but it does hold 2 of the 3 rooms in the list of unconquerable holds and rooms ( http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewtopic.php?TopicID=8454 ) and those could be fixed with a few moments of clicking on the website to make them "uninteresting" rooms.

Hi, I'm posting this to warn of a scripting change in 3.0 that breaks at least one room in this hold:

Castle - Ground Floor: 1N1E

This room takes advantage of a room editor flaw (fixed in 2.0.15) that enables fake orb data to be inserted into a room. Due to new game elements, the fake orb data cannot recognized by 3.0 scripts. So, in this room, the arena commentator doesn't spend any turns hitting fake orbs in the arena before warping to the top-left corner. This causes the orb that activates the SW door to be hit twice (via scripts), and Beethro can't enter the room. Here's a fix:

Add a Wait until turn 8 after the series of fake orb activations in the commentator NPC's script. This will ensure the room plays the same even when the fake orb hits are ignored in the 3.0 engine.

I'm double-posting about this exploit breaking rooms in 3.0 in Architecture. If anyone knows of other rooms where this orb data corruption bug is exploited by NPC scripts, please bring it to the attention of the hold author so they're aware the scripts may need to be made more robust in order to account for the possibility of those lines in the script being skipped in the 3.0 engine. (Just so you know, there will be better official ways to make things like this happen in the 3.0 engine.)

Are there any plans for an update to this hold? I believe it is not currently masterable, since it's impossible to leave Ground Floor 2N1E after doing its challenge, and there's a room behind a blue door in the challenge level.

If there is an update, Pilchard, there are some other problems you might want to fix:
Upper Floor 2S is not backtrackable since the fuse is only reachable from the north.
Lower Floor 5N is not backtrackable because of a yellow door.
The stairs in Upper Floor Entrance end the hold... and prevent backtracking.

(Or, of course, you can just get rid of the damn challenge level blue doors so I stop caring about backtracking. :) )

OK, so, look.

There are the backtracking problems mentioned above. There's the ending-stair thing, there're a number of rooms you can't go through. (As I mentioned over in the wrong hold's topic: if you go back south through Lower-Mid 4N, you can't get back north again.)

I'm not sure about it being impossible to leave the Ground Floor challenge--I assume Remlin meant 2N1E--since I seem to have left it without a problem. [EDIT: oh, wait, unless of course he means the fact that the scripting is so broken that once you come back up the stairs into 2N1E, you get to sit there and stare blankly at a bunch of closed yellow gates. That might have something to do with it.]

What is a problem is that, having not done that one before, it seems to me that I need to replay the entire hold in order to clear every room on the challenge level, since I can't backtrack to get to the one I missed at the beginning of the game.

King Pilchard, tear down this (blue) wall! And fix the frickin' backtracking problems.
