Whilst playing trackmania, on the puzzle mode, where you have to modify a course to make it possible before navigating it, I though that a similar idea would work for DROD.
The player would have to add objects or monsters or whatever, to make the room quicker to clear and exit.
However, the player would only have a certain number of objects to put in the room, such as a 4 roaches, 20 wall squares and a force arrow for instance. The player would not be allowed to remove any existing objects.

If anyone is interested of the idea please feel free to try it, because I am working on my own hold and am not a good enough archiatect to take full advantage of it anyway.

Please post with any questions or telling people you are going to make an editable hold.

I have trackmania! (Heh, I had to say it)

I had a similar idea a long ago but for some reason I never finished it.

My idea was something like having one or a few rooms with all walls pre-placed and you would've had to insert objects and monsters into the room to make it as interesting as possible. I got the idea originally from a mini contest in Elasto Mania and began to think if it would work in DROD.

It might actually work with a well made room layout.

That's sort of the concept I was shooting at with the 'pick which walls you want to leave up' rooms in A Quiet Place.

With scripting in JtRH it does seem possible to pick where monsters go and so forth -- that'd be pretty cool to see.

Not really - either you have REALLY limited selections - and possible timing issues (Hit the orb to pick where the roach goes, then enter the room) or... yeah that's really the only way you can do this. And with walls we can just use yellow doors - hit the orbs to place/remove them and make it impossible to hit the orb afterwards. That's about it.

Yes, you would definately have to be able to change it in the editor, because then there are many many more posiblilities.

I was thinking of simply having the monsters simply be NPCs until a set point at which they activate.

Right, that would be a good way of allowing placement of monsters at a few predetermined options. (If you have access, think about how Dreamplane 4N 1W is implemented; additions to those scripts could allow some choices about the "starting" setup.) Free placement would be impractical to program, though. If anyone wants to design that sort of meta-puzzle, involving the editor is the way to go.

I made a small demo that allows you to place three roaches in a 5x5 room. The logic for larger rooms is equivalent, only more annoying.

The ideal would be if there was a way to check for mimic/decoy placement, then somehow replace said mimic/decoy with a character.

[Edited by Zaratustra00 at Local Time:04-14-2005 at 10:53 PM: Added wall where there was no wall.]

I didn't mean the idea to be like that. You were meant to actually edit it.

Here are a couple of rooms to show what I mean, but I will let someone else make the proper hold if they want.

Has anyone got gold on all the rooms, and does anyone want to make a whole hold like that?
