I bought the game on Steam, but when I try patching the game (Steam's version is on 1.2.8.398 so I'd like to get newer patches to play some holds recently made) the installer just says I'm missing the required directory and exits. Is this just a Steam thing or does anyone know a way around this?

Updates for the Steam version are managed via Steam. The Steam and non-Steam versions are also slightly different, so you can't cross-patch them.

Wheels are being turned to release 1.2.9 on Steam, but in the meantime there are no major gameplay changes between 1.2.8 and 1.2.9
