So, my best attempt at optimizing second level has me at
2973HP/65ATK/36DEF
at the score point, which would give me around 1650HP at the last boss if I optizime for it instead, still about 250HP short. Which means my strats are probably just plain wrong.
And my best attempt at first level has 847HP/25ATK/12DEF with 1 yellow key (doing the green key bit later as an optimization), which I don't think would matter much even if I can optimize it even more.

So, I'm asking a few things about general strategy:

Well yes, that's pretty important to start with. However, it's also useful to That way, you can pick up some DEF in the next Level before cleaning this one up. All small bits help!
Edit: it even allows you to kill Mud Babies easier because of some free ATK, so it saves you extra damage from those when cleaning up.
