Almost three years later, I finally got round to beating this challenge myself. My final stats:
3006 HP, 342 ATK, 230 DEF, 4/3/4/4 keys, score 2815.
Then I went on to the obvious corollary:
C h a l l e n g e ! |
Beat the second half of Tendry's Tale with no backtracking! |
Interpreted literally, this is impossible. You have to backtrack to Homeland to access the second half of Pirate Lair; both access points between the halves of PL are guarded by two-tile doors so you can't skip them with the Pickaxe. So, to make this a possible and interesting challenge, portions of levels that are accessed out of order
are considered separate levels. This means that when backtracking from PL to Homeland, you pass through the first three levels, but cannot interact with them; those levels are dead now.
In other words, levels and sublevels must be tackled in precisely this sequence, and after leaving each level, you can pass through it but cannot interact with it:
1. Main part of Homeland
2. Main part of The Goblin Tribe
3. Main part of No-man's Land
4. Pirate Lair, east and north of the Adder room
5. Homeland, Tar Mother room only
6. Second half of Pirate Lair
7. Preservation of Tueno
8. Pirate Lair, Adder only
9. The Goblin Tribe, Really Big Sword only
10. No-man's Land, Wubba and Slayer only
The final real battle was surprisingly close....
