I'm playing through for the first time as a rogue. When talking to Regin, he told me to "gather your magical powers" in order to kill his brother Fafnir. I was under the impression that as a rogue I don't have any magical abilities.

Just before I started this character, I thought to play as a sorceress, but changed my mind, and so clicked "Restart" and chose a rogue instead. Could this have bugged my save game?

EDIT: Because of this, he did not give me the golden sword.

Well, the dialog discrepancy definitely doesn't sound right, but no, you don't need the golden sword as a rogue.

It's excessive florid language. Not strictly speaking correct, but that's just the way Regin talks.

I don't believe it's excessive florid language, because I've read of others playing rogues that have received the golden sword, so I'm wondering what the difference is.

In the original release, Regin gave the player the golden sword, but the puzzle got changed slightly later because rogues have something else they can use instead (and we didn't want rogues fighting with swords because there were other complications).

I checked the script, and Regin does say 'magical powers' to a rogue, so I guess he's just being a bit over the top about a rogue's cunning.
