As a sorceress I just talked to him as well. I *did* have Fast Talk though, so maybe that's indeed the thief solution?

You just have to pick the right dialogue options. Try being nice to the little guy.

This worked for me as a Warrior without Fast Talk skill, so I imagine it's the same for all classes.

Funny, I kinda thought you'd make him go through a physical transformation. Maybe make him... you know... less hideous to look at?
