I spent a fair amount of time last night optimizing the forum. All I worked on so far is reducing the number of SQL queries happening per page view, and so far only for the big three - viewing the forum index, topic index, and an individual topic. I cut the number of queries by at least 75% in each of these three cases, and even more than that for two of them.

So... let me know if the forum seems faster, but more importantly, let me know if that screwed anything up. It really shouldn't have - I mostly got rid of redundancy by caching the results of some queries that were repeated.
