Hmmz, here is an old classic:

A man lives on the top floor of his building, which is 30 storeys high. He goes to work every day, so naturally he uses the elevator. When he is going to work, he just rides the elevator to the ground floor and drives to work. However, when he is returning from work, all tired from working all day, he rides the elevator from ground floor to floor 20 and makes the remaining 10 floors by stairs. Why is he doing that?

Well, that one was a bit easy, so here is another easy one for whoever reads this next.

You have six oranges in a bag, and six people with you. They all want an orange. How do you give everyone an orange and still have an orange left in the bag?

They are oranges as in fruit, and breaking them in half could get very messy, and no-one wants a very messy half orange type mess.

They have to learn how to share.

5005 maybe??

Anyway - (and apologies if this has been up before - I just joined in and haven't read all 50 pages in this thread...)

A father and son were in a car crash, and were both knocked unconscious. Due to the differences in injuries they were taken to different hospitals 50 miles apart. When the boy came to the operating theatre the surgeon took one look and said "I can't operate on this boy - he's my son". Explain.

Imagine John, a party magician, is carrying three pieces of gold each piece weighing one kilogram. While taking a walk he comes to a bridge which has a sign posted saying the bridge could hold only a maximum of 80 kilograms. John weighs 78 kilograms and the gold weighs three kilograms. John reads the sign and still safely crossed the bridge with all the gold. How did he manage this?

by juggling, perhaps? So that he only has 2 pieces of gold in his hands at any one time.

Although, I don't think that would actually work, since you would have to provide some sort of upward force on each of the gold pieces which was more than its mass in order to accelerate it up. The reactive force for this action would ultimately be between your feet and the ground, thus adding a couple of Newtons to your effective downward force on the bridge (over the 80 kg maximum).
