I think you have a good start with the monster manipulation concept that seems to be the theme of the first level. One thing you might want to do is find more ways to add variety to the basic concept, or make the players alter their strategy somewhat for different rooms. (The way you have it now, each subsequent room adds more/different monsters, but the basic strategy is the same. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's fun to have to try new things in each room.)
My other suggestions would be to develop the story a bit (I wasn't at all sure what was going on between the player and the rock giant "king," or why the guards killed him), add some checkpoints and maybe make the room layouts more interesting (if there's a lot of empty floor space that the player won't use or need, you can do something else with it, whether it be another puzzle or just some scenery).
