The title pretty much sums it up. Put a bunch of stalwarts, roach queens, and brains in a room and give it a try. It's really weird!

Is it a bug?

Yeah, sounds like a bug. Could you provide your sample room, and check drod.err for errors?

Hmm. I didn't see any big difference with and without the brain. Roach queens do flee from Stalwarts. But if they're directly between two of them, they try to flee from one and end up killing the other. I guess it's not that roach queens can't kill, they're just almost always too afraid to (sort of like a wraithwing with no friends).

Just tested. It seems your right, schep. They can also kill you, and, oddly, will prefer running from a stalwart rather than you (at least in some cases)

So is this a bug? 17 years later and the thread is marked "cannot reproduce" despite schep and Someone Else confirming the behavior.

I've attached an example hold in case there was any doubt.

I think it's a bug, and monsters that are fleeing (queens and wraithwings) should not consider occupied tiles as valid moves.

Topic icons aren't always up-to-date, especially with very old topics.

This has been known behaviour for years, and is even taught in Advanced Concepts (Advanced Brain Movement 1N2E, although as mentioned it works for unbrained queens too).

Queens will also kill Beethro when fleeing from a Stalwart.
