Every so often, I go to my 'My Stats' page to look at the Holds I've conquered, the Holds I've started and not conquered, and the Holds that I've not even cracked the plastic on. Usually, this gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

But lately, I've been feeling kind of uneasy. Why? Well, the number of holds I started and then abandoned has been growing. On one level, this isn't too surprising. Most my 'abandoned holds' are on the high side of difficulty. Until fairly recently, that list included Tar Ballroom, Dusty Dungeon, Beethro's Teacher...you get the idea.

But I've been trying to cut down on that.

So a question for all of you out there:

Of the holds you have started playing, how many have you yet to conquer?

Of the holds you have conquered, how many have rooms that you haven't yet completed?

For me:

At the moment I've succeeded in lowering my 'Explored but not yet Conquered' list to 20 holds. I'm going to see if I can keep it from going any higher than that.

Of the holds I've conquered, I have unexplored rooms (Missing High Scores) in a whopping 38 of them (some of these may be moot...for example, Pilchard VIII's 'The Slayer's Revenge' has a whole bunch of inaccessible rooms that are still marked highscoreable).

But I have made a resolution -- let's see how it works out:

I would like to have no more than 20 Incomplete holds at any given time.

I would like to make an active effort to reduce my Missing High Scores count to a more reasonable level.

Now I just have to decide how I'm going to do it.

Hmmm...Nanfro Budkin's First Dungeon? Lost Temple? Magic Show? Odd Jobs Expert?

What about you?

I do like to finish what I start. So four explored / unconquered holds for me, but Don't Kill the Messenger is my "current" hold, and the other three I just didn't enjoy and don't intend to finish any time soon, if ever.

And I recently went on a missing-room hunting spree, and now most of the "missing" rooms in my conquered list, I actually have solved, but CaravelNet just doesn't know it for various reasons. (I played A Quiet Place and Bavato's Dungeon without auto-recording demos before CaravelNet existed. Tomb of Domb DVD has a duplicated level for w/ and w/o commentary, and I only played one. The level entrance bug and changes to Slayer behavior account for a few.) I think the only rooms in those holds I really haven't conquered are a couple really tedious ones beyond the master wall in MetDROiD Prime and some stuff in Ben Chisel's Five-Sweet Speeking Grauns 2.0, which doesn't seem important.

Wow, interesting set of questions.

I jump around a lot, I know. It turns out that with 135 holds completed, I've got 29 with missing scores, ranging from twelve holds with just one missing (probably one of those really hard secret rooms) up to Pilchard's with 22 missing--a total of 113 missing scores. (Which is still less than 2% of the total scoreable rooms in my conquered holds.)

And as for the 35 explored-but-uncompleted, they range from things where I did one or two rooms (notably The Dancers and Tar Ballroom, both of which made me twitch nervously) to things where, er, I've apparently got all of the high scores but the hold is somehow still only 50% explored. (There're two missing high scores from JtRH. Should finish those off someday.)

I just checked - I have a lot of cleared holds that I just need to go down the stairs again. I guess I'll go do that now. Then I guess I'll clean up some conquered holds. Then I guess I'll finish some other ones.
