I have had this problem off and on for the past quite a while (several months).

Occasionally, when I try to download a new hold from inside DROD, I get the "Downloading Hold..." box for anywhere from 1 to about 15 seconds. Then, that box disappears, and the progress bar at the bottom appears, but remains at about 0.1% (an estimation, of course). I have tried leaving it like that for several hours, and it doesn't do anything else. I checked drod.err, and it has warnings that it transfered less than 1 byte/sec in the last 10 seconds.

I do not believe it is a connection issue, because it's always the same holds that have that problem (seems to be larger ones - with sound files, etc), and most of the time if it does that, and I immediately try downloading a different hold (without even restarting the game), it downloads the other one fine.

For example, I have been trying to download the Secret Society (just over 4 MB, I believe) smitemaster selection (one of them which has above problem). After it had said problem the first time I tried to download it, I tried downloading Halph Has a Bad Day, which downloaded and imported in entirety (just over 1 MB) in just over 2 seconds (quite an impressive speed, I think!)

Normally it wouldn't be a problem because I could just download the problematic holds from the holds page, but of course Smitemaster Selections don't appear there.

It sounds like the same problem several others of us have been having. If you're using any form of Norton firewall, anti-virus, etc. temporarily disable it. You should be able to download the hold fine then. That might not be your problem, but odds are that it is.

I just tried disabling Norton, and it did the same thing.

AFAIK disabling Norton doesn't.

It needs to be dragged out in the backyard, shot multiple times, burnt and buried to get rid of it.

Right. Try temporarily turning off Norton completely while downloading the hold to see if this fixes it.

Ok - I'm not sure whether it was disabling Norton or the several tasks that I figured might be Norton or Symantec, but I got it to work.
