Thanks, Mike! The puzzle seems a moderate success, and I myself enjoyed solving other people's, so I will move on to Stage Two of my plan.
Mike and I have been invited to a private conference in March. I think it's probably in bad taste to say which one, since it is invitation-only. But I'll be happy to give a recap of this very cool event after it's over. If anyone has some idea what event I'm talking about, please don't guess or blurt it out. You can e-mail me about it if you have something to say.
One requirement of the conference is to bring a gift for each of the attendees. I'm now planning to create a small booklet of these puzzles and hand out copies of it. I think I get to call myself the inventor and come up with a new name for them, but I don't want to look like a big dummy if somebody else already had the same idea as me back in 1722 or whatever. So a few questions...
I ask this in the most humble way possible: Has anybody seen a puzzle like or similar to mine? I noted Oneiromancer's reference to the language equations, but that seemed pretty different.
What would be a good name for this type of puzzle? I thought "
Composition Puzzles"
, but it sounds pretty dry. Anybody have a good idea?
