http://www.ytmnd.com (note: not 56k safe, there's sound, Caravel is not responsible for content from external sites, yadda yadda.)

I have no idea how this site has managed to stay around so long, grown so prominent or not been hijacked by trolls. Essentially, the format is: take some text, an image or animation, and a sound clip, and put it together. There are some highly amusing clips there, and the regulars have a habit of taking cliches and running with them, intersecting them with other cliches and so forth. One of my favourites is a series of photos on a fast loop arranged so that the face is in approximately the same spot in each photo, the effect being that the face doesn't change.

The other curious thing is the abundance of copyrighted material there being used. I'd almost call it fair use - due to space, you only get fragments of song, but the images, I don't know. This thing's been in the NYT, and it hasn't been taken down yet. I know Caravel have discovered how quickly webmasters cave when the DCMA is threatened, or even if it isn't, so either the owner is belligerant towards copyright owners (which doesn't seem to be the case from interviews and suchlike) or somehow there's this gigantic blindspot in the eyes of copyright owners.

It just sort of upsets me in a vague way.

Do you want to hit it too ? :lol

Anyway, I just tried to connect to the site... It's down!

EDIT: And now it's back... Seems to be a poorer version of http://www.b3ta.com/ which is much funnier, and usually less offensive!

Ah, YTMND. I used to fequent that site like how I would go to the pub for some shady beverages in a foreign language. Most of it tastes like cheap light beer, a lot of it leaves a funny taste in your mouth, but sometimes you get something that quite strangely refreshing, but in the end it's just beer.

Mainly the fads get at me, but I don't mind the site that much, although it's dumb, but there is (ripped-off) comedy gold on them thar there. Most of it is ever so rude though, so no naughty links.

Note: not 56k friendly, Caravel is not responsible for content from external sites, yadda yadda [/snip] I noticed the lack of links. You don't really want people to go searching around on that site by themselves since it isn't 100% work safe.

http://batmanandsharks.ytmnd.com/ - A "new age" typical Ytmnd; it uses a gif.

http://batmanvsshark.ytmnd.com/ - Damn, that episode was awesome. Too bad I can't remember what was going on.

L edits.
http://petercopter.ytmnd.com/
http://bogus.ytmnd.com/ - I love this film.

http://pulpfictionedited.ytmnd.com/ - I swear, this isn't obscene!

http://matrixonnes.ytmnd.com/ - I love this game. Too bad the sequel didn't live up to hype.

http://jumponitnotthefather.ytmnd.com/ - this is getting to my level of childish humour...

http://rinrinrin.ytmnd.com/ - bingo.

Typically fads are made like this:
http://jonesrock.ytmnd.com/ - You have someone do the rip, cleverly add a relevant song...
http://indyesplodes.ytmnd.com/ - Someone takes it to a new level...
http://joneskatamari.ytmnd.com/ - Someone else does it better.

http://gosquirrel.ytmnd.com/ - Skwerll might like YTMND if he saw more squirrel related Ytmnds. This is just... good music tho'.

It's isn't all bad stuff, but it dependant on the user.

All of the YTMND's seem to be lagging on this computer. Any suggestions on how to increase the FPS?

Try a different browser (specially if you're using Mozilla or Firefox, whose rendering code rivals the slowness of DBOD). Opera and Konqueror are much better at this sort of thing, although Opera still has some problems (if it gets stuck when you try to close the tab, change to another tab and it'll close).

This one made me giggle.

Also, marvel at the Blue Ball Machine.

I tried Opera, and now I don't get any sound on some of the YTMND's. The least complicated ones (those with just a tiled picture and sound) seem to be working, but things like Blue Ball Machine and YTMND for Gameboy are totally silenced. How do I fix this?

I did some research on the matter, and it seems that the BGSOUND tag used in some YTMND's is IE-only. I also hear that there is an extension to Firefox that fixes this, but Firefox is too slow to fix the lagging problem. Is there a similar extension for Opera to be found? Is it possible to replace the BGSOUND tags somehow?
