New experimental stuff!

The code to generate the front page has been largely rewritten. It should now be a fair amount faster to initially load, and it will also dynamically load and collapse board groups. I tried to not break anything, but let me know if you see anything weird.

When not logged in, the borders between forums on the main page were a light colour. Once I logged in, they returned to the familiar dark colour. Bug?

Yeah, that's certainly unintended. Although it's a really obvious way to know whether or not you're logged in ;)

Edit: It's fixed.

Okay, here's a minor issue. Find a 0-rated post somewhere. Click "Good" and watch it go to "+1". Click the Reply button. Then click the Back button (or press alt+left-arrow which is what I did). The post is now 0 again. (Refresh and it goes back to +1.)

Firefox 1.0.7 on Ubuntu Breezy.

(Expected: post to be +1 after hitting Back, actual: post is 0 until refresh.)

Yeah, Back is an issue with most javascript. You can screw up the Hints & Solutions room picker by hitting Back as well.

FWIW, it works fine in Firefox 1.5. That's perhaps the *only* thing that works fine in Firefox 1.5, but that's another issue.

Thanks for the improvements Schik - bar clicking is of course just as pointless, but now we're heading nowhere twice as fast :)

Out of curiosity, regarding modding, since I just modded a post and it jumped from 1 to 3. If two people mod a post at the same time, is the cost of the mod adjusted according to the exact timing, and the current cost of the mod? Or does it always cost what it says?

Glad to help. But you're only seeing it twice as fast? The fastest I've timed the new page is just a touch over a second, while I could never get the old one to load in under 4 seconds. I guess it also depends on how many boards you have visible - the more visible, the more evident the difference will be.

Hmm. This is the same as it's always been - it will actually cost whatever it should cost, based on the mod total at the point in time where you click "Good" or "Bad". This *could* be a problem... and I could certainly add a "Hey, this was modded while you were reading it. Do you still want to mod it?" if the cost had changed... I'll put it on my to-do list, I think.

Of course, that same problem could have occured even before your new javascript changes..

Yeah, that's what "This is the same as it's always been" was meant to imply ;)
