Following on from some ideas in
this thread, may I present: The Dwarf!
Unlike his similarly-named equivalents in other fantasy scenarios, this dwarf does not go around tanking a huge axe and quaffing beer. In fact, he is a studious artisan and lives only to perform his duties to Click here to view the secret text

, which largely consist of carving shiney new rock golems. You didn't think they all ended up looking identical by chance, did you?
If he finds a golem that has been killed (say by some wanton act of vandalism by one of those darn delvers), he will lovingly bring it back to life.
He is terrified of fighting, and will always flee a battle.
The dwarf can restore any dead rock golem back to life upon entering an adjacant square to the downed golem. This happens in the same turn he moves next to the golem. The golem does not move until the next turn.
If there are any dead golems in the room, the Dwarf will move like a roach - except his focus is not Beethro, it is the nearest dead golem.
If there are no dead golems in the room (live ones don't count - they hit people and the dwarf doesn't really like that bit), he will flee from Beethro like a roach queen.
A brained dwarf will move towards dead golems like a brained roach, and if there are no dead golems he will move towards living golems instead. (The brain's evil aura overwhelms his instinct for self-preservation)
The dwarf will never step into any square adjacent to Beethro's sword, much like a goblin. If there is a conflict (dwarf wants to move towards dead golem but sword is nearby, or dwarf wants to flee beethro but sword is nearby, behaviour needs to be carefully defined. Act like goblin and calculate scores for squares then move into best square, or act like roach who thinks beethro's sword and surrounding squares are an impassible wall?)
The dwarf is unable to kill Beethro and will never attempt to move into Beethro's square.
Beethro can kill a dwarf with his sword, but will have to think carefully about how to do this.
This hopefully will get around Mike's "
tag team"
problem, in that if Beethro is near a downed golem (and has his sword on it) the dwarf will refuse to stand nearby the golem. Careful advancement by Beethro can keep the dwarf away from his golem and kill him against a wall.
Lots of puzzles here:
* Separate the dwarves and the golems
* Kill a golem at the correct time to lure a dwarf from his lair
* Keep a golem alive so a dwarf doesn't fall into an arrow trap trying to get to a dead golem
* ... your ideas here...
