NOTE, there's maybe more than one bug in here 1-4 are likely one bug, but 5,6 may be unrelated, don't want them to get lost, so:
SUMMARY
1. the missing monsters in game (before playtesting)
2. the hold crashing drod in game (after playtesting)
3. subsequent playtesting crashes when ESC is pressed (affects all holds and players)
4. exporting the hold crashes
5. the "only me an conquerer's" option was not honored when I imported the hold to another copy
6. the permission option's text is blank

I was just making this as a bit of a joke, a sort of expirement to see what a deranged designer could do, then I spotted a bug.

If I lay down a swash of roach's in the entrance, and then go to play (not playtest) the roaches don't show up.

Incidentally, on an unrelated note, I just discovered you can make some demos go funny if you edit the room a bit and then go back and watch them. (I don't think this qualifies as a bug)

Ok, I should mention that I hadn't playtested the room with the roaches in it when they failed to appear in the game.

So I did (though I didn't complete the room, I hit esacape to get out). Then I went back to see if the roaches now showed up in the game. BAM it crashed.

When I opened it back up, I'd lost my editing right's to Dugan's dungeon. I play tested the room, I didn't finish again (I put a lot of roaches in there), and this time it crashed when I hit the escape key. It now seems to crash consistently if I do that (esc from playtesting).

I can play the room fine as a player now.
As an architect, esc out of playtesting always crashes the program now, it doesn't matter which hold I'm in, or which player I am using.

Also, attempting to export the hold crashes the program.

I just realized that I have set that export to editable only by me and conquerer's, sort of a bad joke.
But that doesn't seem to work, because I imported the file into another installation and I can edit the hold.
Also, the text for those permission choices seems to have disappeared, though they are in build 25.

(I was in the CVS version cheating to export a version that you could all edit when I found this)

I don't know if it is relevant but I should let you know, I'd definitely been doing subversive things with this hold. I recorded demos and then edited the hold to make the demos impossible. I set one of those impossible demo's to show in the title screen. And the obviously intentional trap**. I set up staircases and then deleted the walls around them and stepped onto them from the side (shouldn't cause problem's eh?).
I'm trying to remember exactly what all I did, I was intentionally doing screwy stuff that no real architect would probably ever do, but I haven't yet been able to pinpoint which specific stupid action made things go awry.



** I'm actually thinking of using this idea in a puzzle... a room with several exits and a riddle on a scroll that you need to solve to determine which exit to take... a logic puzzle with several doors (potter fans will know where I got this idea)...
"Three of these doors will keep you forever, four will let you be,
two of them are harmless,through one you may proceed.
One of them will lead you back, the smallest one is the wrong track.
On left-most route you can still play, right-most is a similiar way." ...etc
(I haven't worked out what the riddle is yet)

That's a neat riddle.

Editing things in rooms in a strange way and breaking demos shouldn't cause actual bugs, like crashing. Crashes are probably caused by us not saving some data out right or something. I fixed some playtesting and in-game bugs for build 26, so please get back to me then on whether you can duplicate any of these actual bugs you've seen in build 25. (If the message texts were gone, I think that means you're using the wrong text.dat file. This file is linked to your player.dat and drod1_6.dat files. Replacing just one of them with a different version of the file (putting the 3 files out of synch with each other) would definitely cause crashes. But even so, it would be nice to get DROD to close down as gracefully as possible.
