Are you trying to solve this coming in from the bottom? If that's not working, maybe you should try heading through the room and coming back in from one of the other two entrances.

Coming back in from the top left offers no help, and top right is blocked regarless of what I do. Think I need my buddy to get that open and haven't found a way to get him yet.

You chose Level 4, 1N 2E, this room, as shown in the link attached to the title of this post. Thus, there is most definitely a room to the North of it. If you chose the wrong room, let us know, so we can fix the picture association as well as advise you correctly.

I see nothing there except the same "must be a registered user" thing. But according to the overall level map, room in question is 1N 2E (same as the game screen) and above that is 2N 2E with nothing north of it.(only west)

So, first of all, since you are on level 4, and I don't believe there's a way to get JtRH without CaravelNet just yet, if you want to be able to see the room images and have high scores enabled (among other things), you should follow the instructions in the e-mail you got when you ordered JtRH, which involves making sure your forum account matches the information in the Settings screen, and requesting a key which is sent to your forum e-mail. Moving on...

Okay, the whole point was that you should beat 2N 2E (i.e., the room North of 1N 1E, as was pointed out) and then exit that room from the Southern exit which was blocked by the green door (the 1-square wide exit in the middle of the screen). Then you will be able to complete 1N 1E.

Starting to see why all the guys bailed on this game. I've done 2N2E three different ways and never get the red gates to go away so I can finish. Not quitting yet, but this is not for the "no patience" set.

How's about a couple of tips here?

If you actually did need help with the movement for one of the trapdoor sections, then post again..

I can never seem to complete this room either, even when entering from the top right entrance, I always seem to kill two of the cockroach queen rows, then get swamped by a neverending wave of roaches from the remaining row. What do I need to do?

(I would tend to refer to them as columns, since they usually go up and down, and rows usually go left and right.)

Which two columns/rows do you take care of first? You should do the two framing the top right entrance first, and then take care of the one on the far left afterwards. If you're doing something like going down the center left and then up the far left one, then you run into the same problem that prevents you from clearing the room when entering from the other locations.

Nope, I still seem to get the same trouble when killing the far right column of roach queens, I just get swamped by spawning cockroaches before I can kill the other queens.

Incidentally, it's possible to beat this room without beating the room to the north. (I've done it.) But it requires more like Level 16 skill to do. The solution Neil described is much more level appropriate.

Instead of the nearby roach queens, try heading to number 1 next:
You may need to skip stepping on the checkpoint to get there quick enough.

×When you're on the arrow at (12,18), below the middle row of queens, as long as you haven't lured any roaches out from the left side of the room you can only be attacked from the E and NE. You can use this as a safe spot to go after the middle queens and make progress on them.

The three approaches I found were going for the middle queens first (fairly easy), going for the east queens first (harder but possible), and a somewhat trickier approach that I used the first time I did the challenge. All of them depend on this safe spot.
