Currently, you are fetching www.drod.net/forum/game20news.php with a user agent of DROD 2.0

I'd like to suggest also adding which OS version you are running, and which release/patch level.

Either as an extension of the user agent, or as a parameter on the GET , e.g. ?version-2.0.0.5&os=FreeBSD

Whilst the websserver side could be tweaked to accept these extensions without needing further work, if need be you'll in future be able to customise the messages such that "YOU ARE STILL running version 2.x.x.x - you MUST UPGRADE as this version is known to order pizza for everyone in your address book" or info. which only applies to a certain OS : "A new version for windows will be out shortly to fix an intermittent filesystem problem (etc)"

Additionally, the server stats will give a better indication of both the OS spread, and the versions in use.

I like this idea. In fact, it looks like the server already ignores question-mark-style parameters for that request. So I'd be all for patching this into JtRH ASAP so that the option to serve up multiple messages later exists.

I've added to the FreeBSD version the additional "osver" e.g.:

&osver=5.4-STABLE

, as it's possible that there may be differences between 4.X and 5.X that may be worth knowing... Ok, this is probably not the place to make use of information related to debugging, but I see no harm in it

I've not committed it, just wanted to make sure it's ok - it's only inside the FreeBSD #ifdef anyway...

Incidently, schep, how about doing some sort of "usage stats" page, showing number of 'hits' a day, broken down by OS/version etc. ?
