I minimized SubTerra using the Windows key, and when I tried to restart it again, it crashed. It moved all my desktop icons around too.

I'm using a laptop, but the same thing happens with the laptop shortcut.

The error file that is generated reads as follows:

It's not the end of the world if I can't minimize the game, but it will curtail my playing during the day for sure.

Game on,

Yes, that has been a problem. So has MP3 players.

But it hasn't really bothered me though. It's usually when I'm running something that occasionaly spawns a window.

Annoying, isn't it? This bug doesn't even occur on all systems and has been hard to track down. It has something to do with exclusive DirectX access to the screen, I suppose.

I have a similar problem, except I find it's a lot easier to leave ST by crashing it on the minimize, since exiting the normal way screws it up too.

[ScrnErr] Failed to initialize the screen.
You should reboot your computer and try again.
If the problem persists there may be something wrong
with your system setup.

Both methods of exiting cause this error.

EDIT: No they don't cause the same error, but they both cause an error

The game runs fine, except when I leave... :?

I may be tempted to rewrite the ST kernel to prevent this minimization. It's kind of sloppy but I've never found a good workaround.

Radiant? What happened to your moderator account?

Radiant has two accounts here. The one with the exclamation point doesn't have moderator status. Sometimes he forgets which one he is supposed to sign in to. ;)

Sorry if I'm being nosy but, if he's been moderator from the start of this SubForum (lol) why does he have a new account?

Does he go, Incognito? :paperbag

One account was created February of 2003. The second one was created in April 2005, when the Subterra sub-forum was created. But then he realized he wanted the original account to be the moderator, and he re-discovered or reset his password.

It's hardly a secret, so you're not being nosy, but it's also not really a big deal either.

That doesn't sound right? At any rate, the reason for the secondary account (!) is that for some reason the primary account (no !) couldn't get my DROD progress uploaded. I usually have auto-login via cookies and webbrowser remembrance, and I don't generally need my Mystic Modding Powers (tm) :)

In other words, I used to be schizophrenic, but we're ok now.

Well, I just scrolled up to the non-! account posting above and it says that it was registered 2-5-2003. I wasn't sure if that was really true but I don't know how it could be wrong unless some admin messed with it...or some weird bug I suppose.

Glad you got some help Radiant :)

Well, I've managed to completely warp this topic so lets get back on track :smile

You said it was something in the SubTerra kernel? Kay... What's a kernel :blush
Is it part of the main code?

EDIT: Oh and PS: Radiant, I'm sure you probably know already, but the link for ST 2 is not working properly. :~( Stew Boy said to ask if you could post a new link?

Glad you got some help Radiant :)

Thanks :) I did manage to complete DROD/2 even if it was pretty tough. So the challenge to Erik is to complete SubTerra now :)

The kernel is the bottom layer of the code that handles input (mouse and keyboard), output (music and graphics) and interaction with windows or linux.

Oh yeah, will do. I had planned on wrapping it up anyway, but my life is pretty darn busy. Would that I had more time to spend on game design.
