I really thought I'd get through this one. I feel like I'm really close, but I've been "really close" for days, and it's driving me nuts! I can get all but 2 roaches before the bomb goes off. Any tips on things to do or not do would be great!

You mean eyes, right? I'd say that one general strategy is to try to make them come to you; it takes fewer moves if you don't have to run out there and back.

Eyes, roaches, whatever. ;) Yeah, I've been trying that, and I'm definitely a lot closer than I was. The way I've been trying ends up with the last two getting caught on corners so by the time I'm able to get them to me, the bomb has gone off. Thanks, I'll keep kicking at it.

I'm having trouble on this one too. I go along the right side, killing things that come to me on my way, before stopping at the top to kill the horde that follows you. I can get to the brain 1 move before the bomb blows... I can't see any place where I'm losing any efficiency though. The worst place is probably the 1-square wid corridor straight ahead of you when you enter... but there's no other way to do that bit.

I can get two steps from the door before the bomb blows. So close!

Is this the room with the eyes and the brain and the time bomb? If it is...

I am totally stuck here myself. I've followed all the tips in this thread, and still can't get closer than two steps from the door before the bomb blows. I'm sure I'm missing something incredibly stupid...any tips?

if you are that close you probably just need to time when you kill the brain so that you kill the last couple roaches on your way to the door with no detours

Is there a way to move against brained eyes that I don't know about?

The best I can do on this level is to kill the brain just before the bomb goes off. This is becase while I'm killing all the eyes that follow me north I have to stand still (more or less), which means I don't have enough moves to get to the brain, kill it, then exit.

Gah! Could someone please post a demo for this room...? It's really driving me of the deep edge... Just can't seem to make it in time. I've been seriously considering using the shortcut to level 23 in the secret room on level 21... And then I won't be able to get in to the dreamplane, wich would be sad..
Help me, please! :weep

Edit: Hey, what do you know :D I managed to solve it.. found a way of moving through the very beginning that was much faster than the way I had previously done it! Yay!

Ok , after those hints , I still seem to be stuck , I basically make the eyes come to me and go up the top as thats the only way to kill the eyes up there , and then the rest of the eyes come up the top as well , I kill those and then I don't have enough time to kill the brain and exit before the bomb goes off.

I can't see any way to optimise my path either :( ,any ideas?

Aloha all!

I'm here to echo the "I'm not making it but I just don't see where to shave 10 moves off" sentiment that seems so prevalant here. I'm attempting to attach a demo of one of my closer attempts.

[EDIT]
Un-Fraggin-Believable! How doea that DROD effect work? I watched my own demo, and thought "what if I didn't muck about killing all those guys in the middle?" Poof! One attempt later, level solved!

Can someone PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAS send a good demo? It's driving me crazy to do the same ways with no good results, EVER!

This is the second time I stuck like this in JTRH, in the last time I was so close to delet JTRH - that the only saver was good demo that I managed to copy step by step.

Dahm. Way the wire can't be a little longer?!? Just a little?!?

Thanks for you all who dedicate the time (and the source) to help me (and others)..

Also it is wise to remember, that some of the eyes are passed twice - you do not have to turn your sword to kill them the first time. Instead waiting untill you pass them the second time, and if youre lucky, your sword is perhaps already pointing in the desired direction.

This is a nostalgia post for DROD veterans, many of whom appear to have lost sleep over this room in the past. The infamous eyeball efficiency room doesn't have much slack in it, and I believe the intended solution is to head for the northern corridor via the eastern passages.

This is indeed how Pearls eventually manages it:

Let's Play DROD: Journey To Rooted Hold [Part 72] - frustrated

Let's Play DROD: Journey To Rooted Hold [Part 73] - succeeds

However, Alex Diener refuses to give up on the, what shall we call it?, the western passage. This route has no slack at all, hats off to his devotion to optimizing duty here.

ThemsAllTook plays DROD (JtRH) - Episode 37: No turns to spare - starting

And an hour later ....

ThemsAllTook plays DROD (JtRH) - Episode 37: No turns to spare - solution

Now, if you're here because you're stuck on this room, Pearls's solution above is definitely easier to emulate.
