Depends on your state of mind, I guess. I had seen this trick before, and the first time I read it, I actually read the whole thing without ever realising something is wrong with it! -_-

This time I had to read the first couple of sentences before adjusting, but then it really doesn't bother you all that much.

I've seen this before, but you have to be a bit careful. The first time I read the last sentence, I got "And I thought sleeping was important" which doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the paragraph.

The human mind works on patterns to help it decipher words, and I think the problem with the above is the fact that the scrambling isn't quite as good as it could have been, which made the message easier to unscramble than it could have been. In the jumblings, there are some fragments of the word still left intact, such as two letters in the correct or reverse order, or perhaps a similar order of vowels and consonants (especially if they sound similar).

So, I had a go at scrambling it further to split up letters that are next to each other in the real word, re-group letters in unusual orderings, like several vowels followed by several consonants, and also to try to stop the scrambled word sounding similar to the original (I believe phonetical patterns also help us to identify scrambled words).

I cudlon't bvieele taht I culod aulatlcy uasnrndted waht I was rdneiag. The pnmeoneahl pewor of the hmaun mnid. Aodirnccg to a rhascreeeh at Cdimrgbae Usetrviiny, it dsoen't mteatr in waht oredr the ltretes in a wrod are, the olny itpaonmrt tnhig is taht the frist and lsat lteter be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whtoiut a peolbrm. Tihs is bcuseae the haumn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by isltef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Azianmg huh? Yaeh, and I awlyas thoghut silnlpeg was ipramnott.

I think this is probably harder to decipher, although the disadvantage is that the original is just above it, so you will already have "translated" it, and you might also be able to work out the longer words (via meaning) from the shorter, less scrambled words.

No. You misspelled the 2nd word. Believe has no 't'.

Oops. I must have accidentally joined the next word ("that", which begins with a "t") onto it while editing.

I'll do it in Notepad or some other text-editor rather than doing it in the message box here next time.

Edit: The "t" key is not working on my keybooard today.

You colud, of cruose, witre a pgarorm to do all the lbiouaors sbcamrlnig for you. Tehn you can even flidde with derifneft hesiuticrs for sairnmlbcg the mdilde leettrs aioallcuattmy. Algtohuh, it's srtantig to bmceoe aepprnat to me taht some sbinramlcgs are mcuh eisear to raed than oethrs.

I had the same idea. You could write the program so that it ran on top of another program, intercepting keyboard events and the forwarding, to the other program, the letters pressed in scrambled order everytime the user presses the space bar.

Algtohuh, it's srtantig to bmceoe aepprnat to me taht some sbinramlcgs are mcuh eisear to raed than oethrs.

yeah, like laborious in your scramble took me a minute or so to read. Words with lots of vowels are pretty hard.

I've never been any good at word jumbles, but this suggests an excellent strategy. Rather than trying every permutation of the letters, you only have to try every permutation of pairs of letters.
