This is by far the highest entered contest on record! (although since we haven't had that many contests, I guess that point could be viewed as a little superfluous)

Because of this, and also the fact that I was the first to commit, I feel compelled to speak about exactly how I am feeling about this contest. I therefore apologise for its slight off-topic nature, and before anyone asks, I'm not asking for sympathy. Instead, I'm trying to express my emotions, in order that it might help me feel psychologically better, and also perhaps add an element of discussion to this list of entries.

So... Ahem.

How on earth am I going to compete with at least 60 other people, at least a quarter of which are many times better than me at abstract logic puzzles and pattern analysis, and probably half have seen more puzzles of that sort in the last year than I have seen in my whole lifetime?

I feel ridiculously intimidated by the competition, since this is a contest relying on the timed aspect (the scramble for the top 3 positions out of at least 60 is going to be ridiculous, although we won't know about it until the contest ends), and as any regular here would know, I'm always rubbish at timed contests.

With my fear carefully described to the Forum, I now feel slightly better, since coming last is at least better than not coming anywhere at all. So, I shall not be backing out.



Anyway, good luck to everyone who entered (or will be entering)!

I'm sympathetic to that viewpoint, and I wanted people to enjoy the contest even if they aren't fast enough to compete. To that end, I asked that people not comment on their progress during the Revelations so other entrants aren't demoralized, and I also added the +8 incentive for anyone who gets a correct guess but doesn't make it to the winner's circle. There is another advantage that only some of the entrants will have, and it is likely to affect the outcome. I can't comment on the nature of this advantage without giving things away.

I'm in! Not that I have heard of Games magazine. And who would think that people who play DRoD are people who like puzzles - I'm sensing untapped market correlation opportunities there! Of course, I'll probably forget about it after doing my taxes wipes out everything else in my brain. But that's ok, I'll just say "I'm out" after the contest has ended.
