The "Welcome to the Sweet Life" screen was funny the first time and the second time, but I think their should be a checkbox called "Don't show this screen again." I just think that in the regestered copy you shouldn't have annouing screens like this. Thanks.

Actually, I really wouldn't mind, provided it had the variety of screens we had in the demo version. Looks like a downgrade from the demo to me. Staring at the same screen over and over is boring.

PS: I read it over and it suddenly occured to me that it's an appropriate punishment for closing JtRH. There really should be no reason to see this screen even once ;)

You can bypass it by hitting Esc in the main menu.

You can skip the exit confirmation screen by pressing Esc on the title screen instead of selecting Quit. (It's faster in two ways, practically.) Additionally, Alt-F4 immediately closes the game.

This reasoning seems flawed (or at least misleading) to me. If I'm on my way out of the game, I'm likely to have my hand on the mouse, not on the keyboard, so anything where I have to reposition my hand on another device is going to be inherently slower. Now, you could always just hit the X at the top of the screen.

But, my purpose for writing this reply is more profound: We've just suggested three or four modifications to poor patmo's behavior, but we're missing the point. Patmo can change his behavior to make this easier, but he shouldn't have to. Learned behavior is hard to undo, and it puts burden on the user. Any well designed UI should not put any (unnecessary) burden on the user. If your users tell you that they do things some way that you didn't anticipate, sure it may be mildly helpful to give them a work around, but it would be a lot more helpful for them if you changed the program rather than their behavior. Computers/Programs/Programmers should adapt to our (users) needs as humans, not the other way around.

IMO, patmo has a legitimate complaint about not wanting to see a pitch screen for a product he's already bought. No matter how entertaining said pitch screen may be to the rest of us, he has a valid complaint.

Oh, sure. I'm with you on your reasoning. This issue has been discussed many times before involving various UI aspects of the game, editor, etc. The exit screen isn't just for a pitch, but rather for confirmation that the user really wants to exit the app, just like the dialog in the old DROD. I don't see this as fundamentally different than a simple dialog box that pops up and asks "Really exit? Yes / No".

In a way, I disagree. The old dialogue box that appeared would appear in the middle of the playing window, the place you focus most on, so it was in a convenient location. In JtRH, the buttons are in the lower left corner, which is a rather unexpected place for them to be, and not the sort of place you would usually be focusing on to look for buttons to press.

I like the screen, although I think the buttons should be moved into a more noticeable and prominent position.

I don't know about you, but I find that I'm more likely to use the escape button to leave a program, especially since, to go from the game to the menu, you press the escape button. My hand's already there so I just hit it again until I'm out completely. I didn't even know about this "Welcome to the Sweet Life" screen until I read about it here and went back to find it.
