(It's faster in two ways, practically.)
This reasoning seems flawed (or at least misleading) to me. If I'm on my way out of the game, I'm likely to have my hand on the mouse, not on the keyboard, so anything where I have to reposition my hand on another device is going to be inherently slower. Now, you could always just hit the X at the top of the screen.
But, my purpose for writing this reply is more profound: We've just suggested three or four modifications to poor patmo's behavior, but we're missing the point. Patmo can change his behavior to make this easier, but he shouldn't have to. Learned behavior is hard to undo, and it puts burden on the user. Any well designed UI should not put any (unnecessary) burden on the user. If your users tell you that they do things some way that you didn't anticipate, sure it may be mildly helpful to give them a work around, but it would be a lot more helpful for them if you changed the program rather than their behavior. Computers/Programs/Programmers should adapt to our (users) needs as humans, not the other way around.
IMO, patmo has a legitimate complaint about not wanting to see a pitch screen for a product he's already bought. No matter how entertaining said pitch screen may be to the rest of us, he has a valid complaint.
