I have finished the JtRH demo now, and have started a new hold called Egg's Castle. However I am a bit confused by some of the scripting commands, and don't know how to make Beethro speak!
Can anybody help?

There's something about those in the help. (Press F1 in editor. Then find Characters. There's info about using every command there.

Here's step-by-step instructions on how to make Beethro say something when you walk into a certain spot.

1. Create a character anywhere in the room. (Don't check "visible" option or worry about the graphics)
2. Click "add command"
3. Find "wait for player" and select it.
4. Drag the area where Beethro has to go.
5. Now, add another command: Speech
6. Type all information about the dialog. Delay means the length of the message. If you want sound, just click "add sound" and find the correct file.
7. Make multiple speeches next to each other for longer dialog.
8. Add command "end" after the speeches if you don't want that they will be repeated every time when you visit that room.

Thank you, I've got it all worked out now.

Here is a part of my new hold, a brilliant example of confused scripting and confusing scripts.

I apologise for the lack of size but I havent really had long to work on it....

I can't import custom graphic for my character. There is "custom" option, but somehow it doesn't quite work for me. Can I set speaker's portrait using that ?

Ah, no. We don't have Custom currently documented in the script help file. Thank you for asking about this. I've added it to the help document in future versions. It works as follows:

Use Custom to have the NPC "throw its voice" to a different square in the room. If a monster or character is located at the indicated square when this command is executed, it will appear as if this monster or character is speaking.
