In another thread, Mike mentioned that there are three layers which can be deleted seperately. However, if you delete the objects layer than the monster layer will also be cleared, and vice-versa.

Yes, it deletes from either layer when you do this because I realized that monsters and objects (the middle layer) rarely if ever inhabit the same square together, so you don't have a problem with choosing deleting one or the other for a given square. The selection problem arises when you're deleting over an area, and things from both layers are intermixed -- but the user usually intends to delete things from only one layer or the other.

I think that the lack of consistency outweighs the benefit. Also, placing monsters on arrows isn't that rare an event.

You're right about arrows (I'd forgotten them). And I realized in my lasst post I'm contradicting myself. So I think the empty tiles on layer 2 and 3 should be modified to only work on their specific layer.
