This is a fairly short hold (7 rooms) with a story based on the Odyssey. The hold should be challenging, but not too difficult. Any time there are roach queens, there will be a strategy that will make killing them reasonably easy. Enjoy!!

Hi,

as you can see from the emphasis, I did.
As a matter of fact, I just gave this hold a 10. The layout
was nice, the story well mapped to the DROD theme.
But most of all, the puzzles were very good. Nicly thought out,
I liked the graded difficulty in the rooms (e.g. sword/shield,
eyes).

It was just the right level for a small hold: not too easy,
not impossibly hard, never tedious, always fun.

Well Done! :thumbsup

Cheers,
Rothro

I'm enjoying this hold so far. One small quibble about the scroll text: It's the sirens that endanger Odysseus' ships with song, not Circe. Circe's the sorceress that turns men into pigs!

I don't know how I goofed up when I could swear I was reading the story from one window and typing in another, but you are most certainly correct (which makes me most certainly wrong). I also managed to leave in a misspelling of "beaches" .

I'm working on a fairly large hold now. Maybe afterwards I can correct these errors and spiffy things up a little using JTRH.

Thanks for the correction :unsure

I enjoyed the hold, myself, for the most part, with a /couple/ difficulties.

1: I really wasn't big on that room

Or something. It was mostly 'press backspace and see which move doesn't kill you.'

The cyclops room was /awesomely/ done. Probably my favorite of all the

The siren was okay.

And the final room was awesome when I figured out the trick to it, though my demo is by no means elegant nor optimized.

That reminds me. After viewing the high score demos, I realized I had managed to beat the last room without ever figuring out the useful intended trick. It would have been more fun being clever, but battling the hordes by attrition felt very ancient-Greek too.

I also found this hold very enjoyable. I felt the story worked, and some of the rooms had quite unique challenges. For some reason my favorite room was the sword & shield one.

I also didn't fully realize the trick to the last room and solved it the long way.

Just played through this one while waiting for inspiration on another hold. Another very nice Larrymurk hold! Difficulty was a lot less than most of his other stuff -- I'd put it somewhere between Odd Jobs Easy and Odd Jobs Medium.

Thoroughly enjoyable. For a little while, anyway...but short holds are good too!

I give it a 9 with 6 brains of difficulty.

Very fun, I liked the clever architecture (sword and shield shaped rooms, hearts) that tied in with the story. A couple of the rooms stumped me for a little while until I thought a bit. I'm embarrassed to say that it took me nearly two hours to complete, mostly due to hard-headed repeated attempts on rooms like the last one. :blush

Thanks!

This is the first hold by Larry Murk, very short one. Compared to the following works of this architect of course you won't find them that difficult, but still you can see he was trying to create non trivial rooms from the very beginning.

Recommended for historical reasons. ;)

It was my very first non-official hold. ^^

I don't remember it much though. Not too difficult, original rooms and quite short (which I don't consider a problem).
