Say you have a 5X5 block of yellow doors. normally, when you attach an orb to one part of the block, all of the doors will open...I want doors where you hit an orb, and only certain parts of the block open, so I can make like a "button maze" or something like that.

I think you can get the same type of puzzle by using doors in a grid with walls. Is there some type of puzzle this will allow you to create that you can't already do?

(Incidentally, with JtRH doors no longer connect diagonally.)

Even more incidentally, doesn't that together with the no dioganals floor tile make it possible create door mazes on empty ground anyway?

I am probably not being specific, so its my fault...but what I mean is ALL the area is door, and not just parts of it in a grid. If doors in JtRH don't connect diagonally, I could do quite a few things, but what about in the basic directions? I can think of a few things I could do with that.

Well, perhaps I'm not imaginative enough, but I can't really. Perhaps a few good examples would be more persuasive. (Although, I must confess that such a change would be pretty hard to make in DROD, so the examples would probably have to be very good to make the idea look justifiable.)

For example...something at point 1. If I hit a button set to trigger that door, every part of the door will open...

I am talking about something like every other row in that blob of door will open...like this.

X=closed door
O=open door.

I just want a way to set the orbs to doing something like that.

Yes, I understand this. What I'm asking is how this will add to the types of puzzles or game experience you can get from DROD. The striped door pattern you're talking about isn't really a puzzle, and I don't see how to make it into a puzzle. I don't see how this allows you to create new types of puzzles that you couldn't get pretty close to with what we have already.

Well, you could make changing mazes with it, but that would probably be worse than tar-covered walls...

Propably not worse as you can see what orbs do in JtRH.

You can create changing mazes already in larger size. And it's a little easier in JtRH when the doors don't connect diagonally.

There seems to be very little use for this suggestion. And it would be more tedious to set up orb definitions for every part of the door.

Click and drag would make it easier, though. Either in 'free-mouse' or rectangle mode.... yeah I can see how this would be hecka good. And maybe a double-click would switch modes, cycling like <complete door> -> <rectangles as selected by mouse> -> <free mouse> -> <complete door again>.

That would be AWESOME! And much COOLER than tar mazes. Those things are just tedious whereas this has SOME puzzle elements.

And it would be much more of a pain to use the non-connecting diagonal doors thing to create a maze like that.... and much much less space-efficient. And hard to look at, and to use, and to make.... etc.

So yeah this has my *ZTAMP* of approval.
