What is the trick here?

The tactics used in the non-secret version of the room is not working:
I have to extract one monster from the passageway in almost every turn (there is one or perhaps two spare moves?), and to do that, I have to move either diagonally down (SE or SW) or horizontally towards the center. Too soon, I run out of space, and from there I can kill a gel baby on only every second turn, which is of course too slow.

The rock golem must be significant, but how exactly?

I have figured out what position I need to be in to kill gel babies after the rock golem, but I'm still left with one baby trapped at the end.
