Has anyone set a challenge of how many turns you can force the player to take to complete a room?
My rules for it would be:
No scripting, obviously. Otherwise you could just have a character wait 9999999999999999999999 turns.
The amount of turns is determined by whatever the "Nth place!" things go by. (Hopefully you all know what I mean by that.)
The room can force you to do things while the room is ongoing, but it has to be proven possible.
And "almost impossible" doesn't mean "impossible", for example if the player has to guess a code, assume that they got it on the first try in minimum turns.

To summarize: 9999999999999999999999 is far from the most you can do. The most efficient way to do this is probably using a binary counter.

Actually, one thing I'm not sure about is how DROD and the site would handle values that exceed the storage capacity of whatever data type is used for move count. It's possible that this might actually be the limiting factor here and not the "actual" length of the room.
