Off-game I made an edit above, but when the post was originally made it was correct. Then something happened and it was necessary to change it to make it correct again.

Off-game: I'm feeling bad about everyone getting modded down. It seems to me that the rules will need revising regarding the mods so it isn't so painful to play the game--but not in the middle of this game. Hint on the current Invisible Rule: The second edit I made was just because I screwed up and didn't follow my Invisible Rule when I posted. The first edit is more interesting than the second, because something happened that required me to change my post. It was correctly following the Invisible Rule when I posted it, but then something happened making it incorrect I was then required to edit it so that it would be correct again.

Off-Game: By the way, must I wait for my previous posts to be modded before making new ones, or can several shots in the dark be taken? (not exceeding the host's number of posts of course). If this is possible, can I catch up with the host in a batch of posts and then go guessing the Invisible Rule?

You may make batch guesses without waiting for mods. But if you make three or more posts in a row, you should wait for them to be modded before making a guess, because it is possible that three in a row will be correct which changes how you would make a guess.
If this is possible, can I catch up with the host in a batch of posts and then go guessing the Invisible Rule?
Yes, unless you make three correct in a row, then you must first give anyone else caught up or having a greater number of posts than you a chance to guess before you.

Off-Game You must guess because you made three correct entries in a row. Nobody else has a greater number of posts than you, so you aren't obliged to wait.

But hurry before somebody posts a #5.

The Invisible Rule is that you have to start your post with the same letter that the previous post ended with.

Off-Game: I'm still not certain about the rules at this point... you said about someone posting a #5, but they can't post it before the host does and stuff.

If I won, can I have a go at being host?

Yeah, you got it buddy and feel free to host another game--I will give you some mod points. I made a few revisions to the rules:

- Incorporated previous rule changes discussed in topic.

- Removed the rule for being forced to guess if you make 3 in a row. This was mainly to prevent people from milking rank points by throwing out a series of guesses they know are true. I feel the other rules are sufficient to guard against this, so I figured make the game simpler. The downside is that new players have to get "caught up" before they can guess, so it is a barrier to entry.

- Negative mods are now placed in a pot which the winner gets. I noticed that the net effect of the contest seemed to be lots of players getting modded down and one winner gaining a few rank points. Doesn't seem so fair. Now the winner gets a hefty crate of rank points from the pot, so it may be worth the risk.

Also, feeling bad about the adventurous types getting punished for bad guesses, I just got rid of all the negative mods. No promises I will do it again. The risk of losing rank points makes the game a bit more interesting I think.

If this post is good I'll have some food.
If I am wrong I will cry long.

Off-Game Okay, it's primitive, but were trying to find a rule, not write good poetry here. And no, whether I cry or have food is not actually based on how you rank this post.

Pit traps are red, and spiders are blue.
Snakes will continuously slither at you.

Off-Game By the way, there is only one rule. If you're thinking on the lines of "The Invisible Rule is X and Y" you're totally wrong.
