Perhaps everyone else has seen this many times before, but just in case not...

http://www.innergeek.us/geek.html

I got 28.99408% - Total Geek, which I thought was kind of low, but maybe not...perhaps it depends on what others get.

Geek on,

I'm just a tiny bit less geeky than you (28.88...% - Total Geek). I thought that creating an artificial language would have at least earned me "major geek" status.

Oh, brother. And I thought I was doing well because I'd noticed I was not checking a bunch of stuff I used to do and was happy because my geekiness was going down. :eyes

Hehheh. You can't shake it off. Geekiness gets in your bones and you're stuck with it. It's with you for life!

Hmm... Looks like the score is just the percent of checkboxes you checked. So your language got you just as many points as anything else... A weighted average would make the results a bit more meaningful.

At least I'm less of a geek than Mike :)

Yeah, I know...you would think that at least when you check something that is farther down a tree than an earlier choice that it would really stack up the points.

One of my coworkers was sad that I scored so much lower than her (she got a 38%--sorry guys, she's married), so I took it again and actually did find some boxes that I had missed and got a 32.9%. Then she took it again and was more conservative and got a 33.2%. :D

She said she wished there was a checkbox for "Signed up for a credit card just because it had Dogbert on it and then cancelled it because they removed Dogbert."

Geek on,

So, not that geeky. But I would be able to check many more of those boxes if I had actually done them (maybe I should check the ones that I think are likely to happen later in my life). I like to think that I'm an unconventional geek, and don't follow the normal "rules" of geekyness. So since geeks are already really unconventional, I must be... hyper-unconventional, or something.

My favorite check-box was that I "listen to music that no one else listens to. Ever." Dangit, they didn't have a checkbox for anime soundtracks! Oh well, they didn't have checkboxes for a lot of the things I do, so that's why I said the above.

Not too bad, although I am a little disconcerted that my signature is one of the checkboxes.

Methinks this test is rigged. I was doing great until I hit the movie section. Then the DVD section. And I am a database programmer and physics major, so i'm screwed there. Not too bad considering my environment. The real killer though is that my wife has even called me a geek, and she's a DBA! How would that work? I have a DBA calling me a geek, gaining geek points in the process, but I am married, which flies in the face of geekdom. It should cancel out. So confusing, oh well. Back to Drod. :)

I want to make a version of the Geek test that weighs attributes based on how much they're an indication that you're a geek.

Haven't worked out the forulas yet, though.

Somehow, I'm disappointed. I was expecting more... For one thing, I know the etymology of the word geek, that ought to count for something...

It should count for something... ain't it a chicken-head biter?
Also the questions about exaggerating and lying to score higher should have a further one about being frustrated by the paradox of only lying on the lying one... I ended up checking the outright lie box because of being frustrated by the paradox myself, but I think there should be more. I would have been amused by it anyway, and I'm pretty sure that test was for entertainment purposes, and hopefully not so they can purify the gene pool.

There's this line in an episode of Futurama where the Professor talks about a time where aliens came to Earth and forced the smartest humans to mate with one another.

This is extremely off-topic though, although I reckon it's saved by the mental image of geniuses the world over suddenly realising they're going to get some without even having to try.

I knew how to count to 31 on one hand, but how the hell you get a 94%... you lie and tell it you set up a network when you were 6 or something? Actually, if I were a techie and a band geek in addition to everything else on that list I probably would have been a 94% or so myself, so you really don't need to answer that question.

If you're interested in pi, there is a book on it I know of that's devoted to the number. It contains the first million digits of the number, along with gobs of information about the number, its history and what you do with it. Well worth a read.

See if you can find "The Joy of Pi" by David Blattner.

I see a flaw in the test, that should give me a point ;)

Two of the checkboxes say
-I own 1-2 computers
-I own 3+ computers
Should'nt the first one be "1+ computers"?
Otherwise you're equally geeky if you have 1-2 computers and if you have 3+ computers.
