If someone can give me a clue as to the start of this room... I can't seem to figure out how to survive the bugs... arghh those bugs.

There's two ways this can work. They're both pretty tight squeezes, but for different reasons.

One way:

alternately....

Ask again if you need specific moves for either of these.

That was great... I don't understand how I couldn't figure out how to leave one extra move to keep ahead of the last four buggies... but, sigh, I guess it was just too much Dungeoneering for that day. I've progresses about 1/2 way through this lovely 4-room treat.

Thanks tons

How do you get through this room first time? I can get by the goblins and eyes, and it seems to me that I need to go south east after that, but I can't get through the tar.

Have you read jdyer's post up the top?

If you need more detail about either of those two methods, let me know.
(Although, the annoying thing about rooms like these is that I can't go back and watch my demo, since its not a victory demo..)

Yeah, that was no problem, but I just this minute spotted what to do next. I guess I couldn't see the wood for the trees.

Edit: And second time round, I've already forgotten how I got through the roaches at the start of the room. My attention span gets shorter by... where was I?

Another thing: I've posted a challenge for this room: It is possible to complete the room without a Tar spawn, and without droping all trapfloors, starting from NW. I'll post a demo later to show how I did.

Thanks Dali, but if you read a bit closer, you'll see I was going through for the second time, so I'd already done all that. :)

What I *really* need tips for now are the two trapdoor puzzles and the orb puzzle at the NE of the hold. But as no one has previously asked about the trapdoor ones, I suspect they are easier than they first appear. Still, watch out for a request for tips. ;)

I've gone one time around through this room, plus 2S1W, 2S2W, and 1S2W. I'm re-entering through the center west entrance, the way those four rooms force me to go . . . and it looks like all I can do is this same circle over, and over, and over.

What's the way off this merry-go-round?

Thanks -

If you're just trying to get out, the only exit from this group of rooms is at the NE of this room... but I don't think you can get back there without conquering this room. There's always Restore.

If you're trying to beat the rooms and/or get further, it would help to know which if any rooms you have conquered and which parts of each room you can get to. Or you know, maybe while you're making that list you'll spot something.

OK, here goes . . . I did get through the first part of 1S1W. Since then I've been around twice like this -

If I had two mimics in 2S1W, I could go a different direction. Alas, 'tis not so.

So - where does my elegant logical structure fall down?

Yeah, I tried the conquering thing. When I've taken this approach, arriving from the upper left, there's always one snake left over in the upper right. It certainly looks like I need to reason with that digital reptile differently. Somehow.

Well. I've tried this room off and on for the past five months. Maybe that's long enough?

I'm on the last trip through, entering from the northwest.

Never mind that one of the mimics really needs to go down somewhere near the bottom tar mother . . . I've got five places where mimics are required and only three mimics.

Any help is most welcome. Thanks -

Been a while since I played this room, but off the top of my head: You don't need to destroy the tar, just any tar babies that form.

I did find this option attractive, but since there's an even number of invisibility potions along any path, it's not obviously available to me. (Or, if I had two more mimics, I could use one of them after going diagonal.)

How did you pull off the stay-invisible trick?

There is one place in the path where you can dodge a potion. Is that what you are looking for?

I've been stuck here for awhile... I just entered for the first time. A couple months ago I remember repeatedly killing the roaches and ending up one move behind in running for the potion, but now I'm having trouble even coming that close. I could use a more specific version of the strategies mentioned near the top of this thread - obviously, the one I've been working on would be the one involving killing the roaches first. Any hints?

Thanks!

I'd say the approach you've chosen - killing all the roaches first - is by far the harder choice and involves the most trial and error. I'd recommend the other approach.

But, if you must keep trying to kill the roaches:

I'm coming in from the NW entrance. To leave the chamber with the trapdoors, I have to let the tar expand at least once. But, if the tar expands once, the SE blobs spawn a tar baby that can't be reached, except by placing a mimic. And there isn't a spare mimic. How do I get out of this?

Well, there is one mimic at the entrance, three on the trapdoors and one just below the red door.
