Some of the themes that people have created are pretty interesting. In particular, I like DRODIS and DRogue_mod. It is interesting to see these ideas that people have, but I hate having to copy and paste bitmap images back and fourth. It may be nice (but not a big deal) to have the ability to select user-created 'themes'.
Just a suggestion.

Well, the most straightforward way to do this I think (though I haven't seen the code) would be to store a list of theme bitmaps in a text file. When you want to change it up, you just edit the text file and suddenly you win. If things are coded just right, all this will need is a switch from hardcoded filenames to a list loaded on startup.

This is in a way already possibe, although it needs a bit of tweaking...

If I've undestood correctly, DROD searches for it's data and resource files in the directories listed in the file DataPath.txt.
The first path in the file is where your dats are stored and the second is where all the resources (graphics and sound and such) are. By making a DataPath-file (and a resource-directory) for each "theme" you could easily switch between the themes by making a shell script / batch file that renames the DataPath file according to your choice.

...and I would LOVE to see midi support ! You know, midi music has very small filesizes, and it would be perfectly ok even for modem downloads.

Can I mod myself up ?

I believe the reason midis were dropped was because they get interpreted by the sound card and are subject to the sound card's particular instrument set, so the player experience was inconsistent. For example, I have a high end sound card and my instrument set is more subtle than a lot of the basic cards, so my drod music experience with Webfoot was different from how the music was written to sound. I thought it sounded good, but some of the instruments were a bit softer than they were supposed to be compared to others, and it's hard to compose music to give the mood you want if you're not sure how it will be played at the other end.

You mean - not worth a try ?

It could be made optional. Once the midi file is deleted from Homemade directory, it would switch to default music. Can't see any harm in this.

MIDIs are supported by DROD as music files.

In fact, the problem is the opposite: DROD cannot play stream files (like wave or mp3 files) as music.

If you replace the music file to be played by DROD in drod.ini with the MIDI file in question, DROD should load it properly.
