It sounds like you have the right idea in terms of the setup, but there is a trick to making it work.
×If I read your post right, yes, you are correct that you need to have 9 roaches in column 10 and 9 roaches in column 14, both "
double spaced"
in order to get the roaches in the far East side of the room all the way down to the hot tile when you step on the pressure plate at (12,26). From column 15 you can hook roaches from column 10 over to column 14 either from directly W, SW, or NW. I take it you have played around with this and have come into the same problem I did.

×Since you have to start in the North and work your way down, you always have to take the top two roaches from W or SW which starts the whole 10th column moving up. This will always leave you with the bottom roaches in the the 10th column too high up to evenly space them out. If only there was a way to force them back down again... (full spoiler ahead)

×I solved this by pulling my first roach over from (10,6) to (14,6), then my second roach over from (10, 8) to (14, 8). Every subsequent roach was pulled over from the North West until I had 8 roaches evenly spaced in column 14. At that point you have the problem that column 10 has moved too high up. So hook yourself over to (10,22), then (here's the lynchpin) turn North and pull the bottom roach down to (10,21). Now you can hook yourself back over and drag the last roach into column 14 (again from the northwest.
