I'm finding this a fun and mostly simple hold so far, but I'm finding myself stopped in this room. I think I recognize the type it belongs to -- every move is blocked by a barrier originating elsewhere, so I have to find the one vulnerable point -- but so far, I'm not finding the point where it can unravel.

May I request a gentle hint about the point where initial progress can be made? (I've been thinking the 3*3 island in the east, waking one of the eyes on it but blocking its moves with the other one, but so far I haven't been able to make that work.) Thanks!

Here's a hint to get you started based on where I think you might be stuck: The mirror in the centre of the room can be freed from its starting location by standing NW or SW of it and swinging your sword. If you're already aware of that then in the secret box below is co-ordinates for where you can place the mirror to get you started.

And that was all it took. Thank you! For some reason I gave up too quickly when that initial swing didn't place the mirror in an immediately helpful way. I should know better.

once I move the middle mirror, I can't get back to it to move it anywhere

As was demonstrated in the Entrance room, you can safely walk into an Evil Eye's line of sight if you are in shallow water and the eye is not within the "smelling" range. With this in mind, you should be able to reach the mirror after moving it. It's a bit of a roundabout path, but one does exist.
