I'm in the editor for The Spire, and every time I click on the warp room in level 1 from the main editing screen I get a ding sound. I checked my drod.err file and found this:

Assertion error in line 63 of C:\\Caravel\\DRODLib\\DbMessageText.cpp: "eSetMessageID != UNBOUND_MESSAGE"

The same thing happens when I'm in room edit mode and I click on either the warp room, or the entrance.

I have music turned off, and sound turned on.

Edit: It's also happening when I enter the entrance to play it. Note: I'm currently playing through my hold, and I was editing the entrance, which I'm in, and the warp room, which it exits to from the south... did that make sense?

Nope, things are where they're supposed to be. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing the hold, either, it beeps regardless. Maybe I should drop the room and redo it...

Edit: Well, that patched it, and I figured out what caused it. I used Ctrl-C with a scroll selected to copy a scroll from one part of the room to another, then I deleted the original and left the room. Turns out the text was erased during the copy, but the editor didn't realise that and was looking for what it used to say. When I copied the room elsewhere and deleted the original, the scroll was known to be empty, and the error did not occur. Replacing the room then was trivial.

It does take several seconds for the confirmation screen to come up when I click to export the hold though. Could this just be something to do with the fact I have many holds in my data file, and it's searching for the end of the file for the hold or something?

Edit: Actually, I just discovered that when I hadn't conquered the hold it went quickly, but when I had conquered it, it took all those seconds. Weird.

If you are still having the problem, it sounds exactly like the one I had before:

http://www.drod.net/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=2940

It was fixed for me by patching DROD with a new version of 1.6.6.

Well I'm using the most current build of DROD, but I did just notice that my text.dat file is about 9.5meg. I've zipped and attached it.

Question: What will happen if I restore a previous text.dat, which I zipped and archived about a month ago?

Edit: There is a LOT of data duplication in this file. I just opened it up in TextPad (my text editor of choice) and it's fairly standard in that file to see the same text about ten times in a row.

So could some kind programmer please take a peek at my text.dat file and see if they can find what's wrong with it? I mean, other than having the same text several times over. Can it be repaired?

I haven't looked at yours yet, but there is a text duplication bug that's been fixed for JtRH. I'm guessing it's the one that caused this: after a fair amount of editor use in the new version, I haven't seen the text.dat bloat this way. (I *might* get to fixing this bug in 1.6, but I'm not sure when we'll put out another patch.)

Alright, so what will happen if I restore to a previous incarnation of my text.dat file? Will I merely lose scroll text on holds I made since the creation of the backup?

Eeh...you'll probably get a lot of beeping again if it looks for texts that it can't find (another issue that's been fixed in some ways in JtRH). Depending on what you've imported or deleted it could be risky. But...if you're really interested in slimming down the bloated file and getting rid of the beeps due to bad texts you have to go with what I call the "Windows" solution (yikes). Export your player and any holds you're making, back up your .dats just in case something goes wrong down the line, replace them with fresh .dats, and reimport everything (holds must be imported first, then your player, so that the player's save games for these holds are imported correctly...which is incidentally yet another issue that has been dealt with in JtRH...it'll be great.) Is this an adequate solution?

Yeah, it's about what I was expecting. Although, I did copy my entire data directory when I was testing DRODIS... maybe all I have to do is export the holds and reinstate the files from that directory, then re-import them. I haven't really done a lot of playing, so save games are the least of my concern... I'll think about it more when I get home, and actually have the game in front of me.

Thanks for your help! :)

Yeah, that should work fine.
