Hey

This idea comes from mediocre arcade game Get Medieval. The Gauntlet remake which turned out to be less fun than it should.

It would be toggled like invis potion - one time item, picking it up once curses you, picking up second one uncurses you.

Bishop is a piece from chess, which can move only diagonally. Beethro would move only diagonally after picking up the cursed item. There are plenty of ways to force him where he doesn't want to go.

I imagine navigating rooms and fighting monsters would get trickier, especially goblins. And these mimics... *shiver*

Well, fighting monsters with curse could be done if the monster-only tiles are implemented. You can create diagonal-mimic rooms already for example with a checkerboard area.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that diagonal-only tiles might be in.

hm. sounds like a lot of trouble for something that could be done with checkerboard.

I think this thing can be done with what we have right now. Check out Mark's Penultimate Dungeon. On Level 3, there is a room that is almost like this, except you can't go on diagonals. I think it should be possible to switch this around though it would be way more helpful to not have to go through placing all those mimics. We could do this and then create the "Rook's Curse." A interesting idea but I don't know if this should be in JTRH.

You mean Beethro can't go diagonal, but monsters can ? You can do this in DROD 1.6 ?

No, it's completely possible to have a room where the monsters can move on diagonals and Beethro can't. It's in jdyer's hold. I don't want to say anything though, in case he doesn't want to spoil the surprise.

Is this along a path or something? I meant over a large square area or something where you can move wherever you want on it but never diagonally? If so, I wil download it.

Yes, that's what I meant.
