It seems that if the player steps on a temporal split token, and then steps off it on the same turn, the sound of placing a mimic is heard.

This has been done with multiple weapons (caber, staff) and with both a temporal clone and NPCs.

Expected Behaviour: No sound is heard.
Reported in 5.0.1.5997.

Thanks for reporting this.

The sound is intentional. Whenever a token is disabled, this sound plays since 3.0 to indicate the token has changed. So, when a temporal token is deactivated while moves are being queued, e.g., drinking a potion or blowing a horn, this sound plays.
