I'm a little puzzled by Snorri's archery challenge...

I have figured out that the wind plays a factor in the end result, but the rest of the mechanics aren't very clear.

The aiming- I haven't noticed any particular difference in where the bow and arrow icon are placed. As an experiment, I left the bow and arrow dead center during three different wind changes: mild to the left, mild to the right, no wind. Mild to the left produced an arrow all the way to the left side of the board, mild to the right produced an arrow all the way to the right, and no wind produced the exact same result as mild to the right.

I have tried aiming inside the board, outside of the board, outside of the board by a wide margin, aiming at the heroine's level, aiming with the corners of the screen, but so far nothing is producing a discernible pattern Vis-à-vis cursor positioning/wind strength/end result. And at this point, after Snorri's 256th snide remark, I'm tempted to have a shooting accident and shoot one of my arrows at his butt

This challenge reminds me of the dagger throw game in QFG1, but in that mini-game the mechanics were very clear. Here, I am not getting the relationship. Is there something I'm overlooking?

Look at the bush in the bottom left corner of the screen to judge the wind (I didn't notice it for a while too because the snowfall never changes direction and I was too focused on that >.< )

That's what I am looking at, but it gives me no notion as to HOW to aim- where the cursor actually goes in relation to the target.
I've tried everything as far as positioning the cursor goes, but it seems to be pretty random.

If the wind blows rightwards position your cursor to the left of the target's centre and vice-versa
Also:
If there is no wind aim at the centre.
If the wind blows slowly aim at the second circle.
If it blows fastly aim at the outer circle.
If you aim at something else (like trees, bushes, etc.) you will always hit only the outer circle.

Takes some practice, but you'll get the hang of it.

I'll give it a try! But as you read in my earlier post, I left the cursor dead center of the target and without any wind, my Heroine still managed to land an arrow on the very right edge of the target.

I am beginning to wonder if she didn't sneak a sip of the mead while I wasn't looking

Are you aiming by the center of the icon, or pointing the tip of the arrow? I think that makes a difference.

When the game is waiting for me to shoot the arrow, the wind NEVER changes direction, it seems it only changes before starting the mini-game, so it's been pretty random for me.

The tip of the cursor is the tip of the arrow. It's very confusing because usually that's on the top left of the cursor but with this cursor it's the top right.

merryjest, are you playing as a mage?
I think she can win only with a help of the Blessing. There is no chance to get the center of the target, if you don't use the spell on the heroine before the challenge.

Well that part means you need to practice, then, because with the blessing on, archery is as easy for a sorceress as it is for a warrior.

I still don't get it. As a warrior, just like merryjest, even with no wind if I aim the tip of the arrow at the exact center of the dartboard it still misses out wide.

Before + after shot:


I've managed to hit the bullseye once or twice but with no fathomable pattern at all. Sometimes with the wind very strong in one direction, I aim at the furthest point on the opposite side of the target.. and it still goes too far to the wind side.

I'm not sure. The tip of the arrow should correspond to where you're aiming, and under still wind it shouldn't have moved to the side.

No one else seems to have any issues though, which is why I'm finding this a bit strange.

I never seem to catch Snorri at Archery place despite he tells me that he is usually there at noon. Once I even camped there...to no avail.

for me watching the wind works but only sometimes. Others despite not moving the mouse and the wind being the same the shot is different.

It sounds like you're playing a warrior?

The bow is a weapon, so you'll need some skill to wield it properly.
