What's the use of animal pelts you get for skinning wolves?

I haven't found any info on them. And I'm already at second world.

Use your dagger on them, while indoors, to make an article of clothing that'll help protect you from the cold.

Do you only get the benefits from one pelt and I'm wasting my time carrying the others? If so, is there anything else to do with them (either as pelts or coats?)

I still skin wolves for the food, so wondering if the extra pelts I get are useless after the first one.

How do you get pelts in the first place? It tells me I'm not skilled enough when I skin animals (though I get meat out of it).

Are you able to do so if you're playing as the sorc? The only tool available Is the pick axe (and even when I try to do it indoors with the pick axe, it says something along the lines of the pelt not being ready and smelling like a varg)...

I think you may have to wait a few days, before you can do it, and skinning them is an animal ken skill. I don't know if multiple ones will provide extra protection either, since I stashed my extras to save carrying weight.
