So basically I need to lure the monster out from the swamp but have no idea... Thought it was to do with the honey or fish (since it's part bear) but no luck ... (Warrior class ^.^ )

Use a battle axe to chop down the standing tree in front of the swamp water. Then protect yourself from the spikes thrown from the plant at the bottom of the screen. I used the shield spell...

..on the flames.. ? where do you get the flames in the swamp..?!

I think he's talking about the Valkyre flames, I did that ages ago. So there is no purpose for me in the swamp?

I understand that swamp is where you get some sort of a 'object of mystical power' (bear's sinew, roots of a mountain, cat's footfall) to trade to Eitri for the staff ?

My understanding is that this quest just isn't for the mages, as the beast is said to be all but immune to magic.

I killed the beast and chopped off his head. Mounted it on the wall at the Guild. Gained "warrior status" and was able to part the Valkyrie flames. I am a warrior with significant magic abilities.

I'm a warrior, needing to kill the swamp beast to proceed past the flames according to the guy in the tower.

I've read the above hint about cutting down the tree with the axe, but that doesn't seem intuitive at all, especially when you would need to get enough money to purchase the axe first, without knowing for sure it would work.

So rather than saying *what* to do - every other puzzle seems to be well-hinted; can someone point me at the person I need to talk to that helps figure out what to do at the swamp?

There is no other hint from any character. The reason why you'd take this action is that you need to cross the swamp water somehow. And it might be hinted by looking at the tree (it is dead/weak), though I can't recall for sure.

You don't have to get past the flames to progress the game though, there is another hint saying something else you could do

Well, that's pretty bizarre if true. The person inside the flames is flashing on the minimap suggesting that's what I should be aiming to do, and the only way to do that is to cut down a tree with an optional purchase with 0 hints at all.. (and no, examining the tree didn't suggest that method of proceeding at all).

Radiant said nothing in the game needed guessing, so I really can't see that as being true.

Well, I guess the question is, how would one normally cross water?

Wood usually floats on water, and you chop trees down using an axe.

No other characters have defeated the gulon before, so why would they know the best way to cross the swamp?

Perhaps if you were forced to purchase the axe at some point, maybe, but otherwise that's a pretty giant leap. I was told the creature was in the swamp, not that I had to cross it too.

[edot] In fact attempting to climb the already fallen tree says that's a bad idea as it'll probably break and plunge you into the swamp - suggesting such an idea is bad.

Anyway, will just go ahead for now, though it's a pretty major flaw in Radiant's statement - definitely no way this is done without guessing / reading a walkthrough.

Yeah that bit really needed a slight hint.... Like "You can see an area beyond the swamp but have no idea how to get to it" ... I didn't even know there was a second screen for the swamp lol

It's a purely optional area Anyway, I've written in my notes / summary of bugs for Radiant that the look description could provide more indication of what's needed (or similar). It's up to him whether he wants to change it.

And someone must have figured it out, otherwise you guys wouldn't know about it still!

Not asking for it to be directly told but just a slight hint since there is no indicator of what you are meant to do in the area (Or even a hint of there being a second area in the swamp) and reading the description of how the creature eats then pushes the food down with two branches on either side doesnt help when there is a set up just like that on the first screen so that's another way of placing you in the wrong direction.

If this is a completely optional area then one of the in-game characters has been greatly misleading me If everything in the game hadn't been pointing me at getting into the swamp then the lack of direction wouldn't bother me as much..

You're also told why she's in the flames.

So yes, you can prove yourself, but if you can't, you could get someone else who's a warrior to rescue her.
