What, equal time or equal standard? Because outside of the US one side of the debate has absolutely no merit.

Besides, I doubt they mention the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and that's imperative to mention so everyone gets their equal time, no matter how screwed up their evidence is.

In the sense that when discussing Cuvier's early findings before Wallace and Darwin came along, he doesn't simply gloss over the fact that at the time with what evidence he had to go on, a creationist/designer theory made more sense than a naturalistic account. In other words, it's not presented such that everyone was simply misled by desires/religion/etc. until Darwin came along. It's sometimes easy to take a present-centric stance, and I think it's good that this professor avoids that without forgetting to keep it interesting.

Ah, I see. I agree that this is excellent!

I am as annoyed of 'in the beginning, everyone was stupid. Then they invented science!' point of view as I am of the 'in the beginning, everyone was wise, and now we are stupid' point of view. I prefer it when people are given the credit they are due.

Even Richard Dawkins has said that before Darwin's Origin of the Species was published he cannot imagine himself being an atheist, and gives a respectful nod to William Paley and his treatise Natural Theology. (The Blind Watchmaker, pages 4-5)

I'm just happy to have a source of information that is higher quality on a subject that tends to attract a lot of emotional attention than I might find either searching the Internet or asking about on message boards. Granted, that might not be terribly difficult to find but it's refreshing to see somebody put things into perspective without trying to be the thought-police with a drive of "If you don't think this way about this stuff, you're a moron." (or in the case of referring to history, "they *didn't* think this way about this stuff, but they weren't enlightened yet/held back by religion/etc.") Then again, maybe I just spend too much time on the Internet.. though this place tends to be an exception to that rule, nicely enough.

Bwahahaha it's Squidi! Looks like he didn't retire from the Internet because everyone thought he was a jerk after all! The dude is - or was, perhaps he's grown up some - a total douchebag. (This is the guy that tried to pick a fight with Penny Arcade. He's also gone on record as saying that there are people out there who don't deserve to play games because they don't appreciate them.)

Anyway, enough of me being a negative nellie. These look like pretty good ideas, on the surface at least. Bad ideas often have a habit of seeming like a really good idea until the gotcha makes itself known.

He actually publicly apologized about that recently, on his own website, but still. You should also read his comics, they're pretty good.

Which one? The picking on Penny Arcade or the elitism over videogames? (I've had other problems with Squidi, so he won't get the benefit of the doubt from me until he demonstrates he's matured some.)

A sandbox toy for those who enjoy fooling around with various things. One exceptional trick you can pull with this is a perpetual motion machine. To do this:

1. Create a wheel.
2. Surround it with ice (but leave room for the spokes to turn, because otherwise you'll need some wind to clear them for the next step).
3. Pour water between the spokes.
4. Watch as it keeps going, and going, and going, and going.........

Ever heard of Rez, but never got the chance to actually see/play it, and want to know what the hullabaloo is about? This video doesn't show off all of it, and playing it is an experience in itself that can't be explained through a video like this, but it does showcase quite possibly the best part of it, as well as some pretty darn good playing.

That fanfic is brilliantly disturbing (chapter 11 with Toad's shrug, the reference to the Divine Comedy, and Birdo in particular are great). I have to agree with the goons that wonder why he isn't/demand he become a published author, though it would suck if in so doing the quality of his writing went away.

If the author ever became famous, he would probably be remembered for how strange his writing history was. A grotesque Mario Fanfiction written by a man who worked the graveyard shift that was later found by a later tenant in his apartment behind a furnace. I think the truth sometimes is stranger then fiction. :?

This has been bugging me: why? I can't see a reason why Apple would have a business case for a Windows version of Safari.

Their other software on the Windows platform has a clear business case: Quicktime has the pro version and iTunes is necessary for the iPod. But the browser market is pretty much sewn up, and there's no money in it anymore unless you're making browsers for closed systems like Opera does.

I admit I was puzzled too, then I figured. It's so that it's easier for people to develop for Safari (without needing a Mac) and thus, the iPhone. Also to create buzz, obviously.
