There's always a special humiliation in being the first to request help with a room that's been played for months. So be it.
I see what needs to be done, and in general I've become decent in combat with guards. But in this case I apparently

×need to keep them alive while circling around them to the opposite end of the room, in moderately limited space (compared to some rooms, anyway). At least that's my supposition because I can't keep the soldiers' gate open long enough by myself, and they won't move unless there's an enemy for them to fight.
So my first question is:

×do I need to keep all 3 guards alive? It's much easier holding off just two -- though I haven't quite managed it yet, and have been narrowing it down to one. I tried circling around the big shrub to get more time and additional hits on the gate-opener. But if that lasts too long, the soldier will kill the guard and they all become immobile again before I can release the third soldier or open the trapdoor gates.
If there's an additional hint that would help me with this, it would be most welcome.
