So this isn't specifically a DROD question, but I downloaded the Old Webfoot music, because I played the demo version way back then, and I discovered it was FREEWARE! and yeah. So anyway, I downloaded both the Ogg and the other one, but I can't seem to get either of them to work. They worked on my old computer, but I got a new laptop, and it's not working now.

The problem is that I get a Winrar error, it says "Access denied" when I try to extract into the DROD folder. Is there a way I can get around this? Like extracting to somewhere else and putting them in manually? Because I can do that, I just can't seem to follow the readme exactly, and extract the folder directly into the DROD destination folder. So could I move the files individually, and Edit the config file by hand? And if so, how would I do that? Thanks in advance!

Disclaimer: This depends on the Windows version that you're using. Can't really specify a lot more since you don't actually said what you're using.

If you're trying to put files into the DROD directory, and you installed it as Administrator, then you can't really put the files in easily. This goes for editing ini files as well.

If you're using Vista and not using the admin user, then you could try to click on the "Compatibility Files" button found somewhere in explorer, and put/edit your files there. No promises though.

I can also not promise that music will work, because I haven't tried it. They might be in different formats unknown to DROD.

Well, I downloaded the Ogg files, and there's a difference between those and the smaller ones. the download for the .mi_ files come with a replacement config file, with the music re-set. The Ogg download just has the music files, and I tried to manually edit the config file to read them, but I got nothing. Do I have to transfer the Oggs into some other format? Is there a specific process for changing specific music tracks, similarly to sound FX?

I'm running windows 7, by the way, and I bypassed my earlier problem by Putting the entire drod folder to a Different folder, a non-restricted one. So that's taken care of. I was just wondering how I could get those .ogg sound files to load, since there is no replacement config file. How can I make it take those music files?

After I read your other post, I'm all confused. Which versions of DROD are you using?

The music and the config file is for the DROD:AE version. I've just replaced the config file and the (non-ogg version) music on the AE directory and it worked.

What are you really trying to do and how did you do it?

Note that I've tried this on Vista, I don't have 7, so if it's really Windows 7 specific then I can't help you.

I am using DROD AE.

What are you getting in the download for the .ogg version? Are you getting a config file? Because I'm not. Like I (confusingly) said above, the non-ogg version has the config file, and that one's working, but I want to use the .ogg files if I could, partially because they're "better" quality, but partially because the other one is having a problem with the level 3 music, where the piano's off pitch by a half step. so I wanted to see if that was not an issue with the .oggs.

It says they'll work with all the latest releases of drod, but does that mean they're incompatible with AE? I'm trying to do it just as I did the non-oggs, but there's no replacement config file in the other download. Is that just a mistake, that it wasn't included in the download for that version? Or maybe my computer can't read ogg files by default? Would I be able to convert them to some other format and try those?

What I tried to do earlier that didn't work was placing the music files in the music folder, and editing the config file manually to direct it to those files, with the specific file names and extensions. For example: I'd change the thing after "Level1" "lev1-awe.ogg", where "lev1-awe" was the name of the file, and ".ogg" is the extension. I haven't tried typing in other ones manually, such as the non-ogg files that do work, to see if manually changing the sound files works, or if it's the fact that the .ogg files just don't work in the game, be it the game itself or my computer. (it's new, so... maybe it doesn't have the proper support, or something)

Anyway, sorry if I'm being a confusing hassle, but I'd like to see if there's some way to get this working. if not, it's no big deal, but that off key piano is bugging the crap out of me. :P

Edit: I opened the .ogg files in audacity, and they work fine in there, and specifically the level 3 music has the piano issue fixed, I think the drum pattern got somehow transferred to piano in the other version, because there are no drums in the other version, and the piano plays where the drums do in this version. Weird. I still don't know how I could put that one in, though.
