Is there a clear, obvious way to solve this room, and the room north of it? In previous rooms I have found a patern, which when repeated solves the room. I only have this one, and the one above it left, and I've been trying to find some kind of agorithm that would solve the room partially through luck (since I can't find an obvious algorithm).

This is a tough room, so I wouldn't say it's obvious. But there does seem to be more than one good solution.

I based my solution on this shape, and pieces thereof:

It helps that dropped trapdoors can prevent the robot from carrying out all the instructions.

Let's please discuss the other room in a separate thread.

That was one of the shapes I did try out, and I have tried it some more now. I still can't solve the room, however

I did however manage to solve the other room through a luck-algorithm It resembels your algorithm, but my solution is so less clean.

Well, if you call my shape a "b", I did something like this:

That's not the only way to solve the room. Dischorran and mxvladi used a different solution.

Interesting. By making a "clean" b shape I didn't have to do those extra moves you spoke about. In reverse I can't see how the solution could elude me when I had started on the road.

Well, apparently my 20+ years of programming experience is not enough to give me the kind of insight I need to solve these rooms. Or possibly I'm just not in the right frame of mind...

In any case, I have five of these rooms left to do before I complete all required rooms on Indoors, and this is the one I'm focusing on right now.

Here's roughly what I've got:



So, looking for some sort of hint.

As a whole, I'm hugely impressed with the idea of the Robolab, a great deal of respect for the effort that went into scripting the robots, but...well, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the style of puzzle. It's possible that it just hasn't clicked for me and once I 'get' it I'll be blown away, but it's such a different way of thinking about solving a room and I'm just not getting it very well.
