If you have a working engine, and you modify it, then you test it to make sure it's still working, not only have you saved yourself some time in finding showstopping bugs, but you've also still got a working engine.

We're not slowing it down deliberately. Au contrare, we're ramping up to the more interesting stage with our testers, but we just need to ensure that their comments are taken on board before we do.

Well, think of it this way. The bar's not accurate.

And anyway, focusing all of your attention on the bar is great for us, because it means you're not doing it to the game. Ever tried to sing in a crowd, and you just can't quite get the same voice you had in the shower (bathroom acoustics aside)? It's like that.
