Ok, I'm working on a hold which involves some tar rooms, and I wanted to include a story about the people whose job it is to take care of the tar. But then I realized I don't have a good idea what to name those people - so, I figured that's as good an idea for a poll as any. Please vote for your favourite name for a person whose job it is to maintain the tar and make sure it grows in the right shape. If you have other ideas, I'll be glad to hear them too...

Just a quick disclaimer - I'm not saying I'll actually use the name in the hold; if I don't like the winner, I won't. I just thought it would be a fun poll and I'm curious if people's tastes match mine.

I was going to vote Tar herder but decided that they would only round up tar not actually raise it so I voted Farmer.

Heh. I think bluebeard would be a very cool name for such a person, but I'm looking for the job description - it has to be something transparent.

I voted for Tar Guy, although it'd be more likely that someone exterminated Tar for a living.

How about a dungeon exterminator? There are bound to be a few mad ones who raise tar just so they can chop it up.

Going by the number of players who hate tar, maybe it should be retard? OK, not politically correct, and I was only jesting. How about a new tileset for tar levels - tarmac? A female tar architect could be tarpaulin. (10 on the groan-o-meter for that one.) Players who take their time with such a level could be considered tardy. Mongolian players are Tartar's. Scottish players wear tartan. Tarot could help describe the concept to a non-believer. OK, I think I reached my target.

Avatar? Or if you're into making two hour long hack+slash tar puzzles, Tarantino.

If you're into building things by hand, perhaps you are a carpentar?

If you like filling entire levels with tar, maybe you have a Mortar.

The guy who has to kill the stuff is a tarminator. Or a target.

A sword designed specifically for disposing of tar is a scimitar

Wow, someone spent another 6 to mod this post down after it no longer said anything. It seems to be some kind of target for misintarpretation.

Good grief, that was bad, and a misspelling, and a (probably unwitting) plagiarism, but it didn't deserve two negative mods.
To regain some semblance of on-topicness - how about the daily tar heel?

Obviously four people who didn't have the guts to take you to task about it personally. But then, I guess that's the type of people who get upset over such trivialities.

[edit]
LOL. Just how predictable was that modding down? :lol

Here's my take on these names:

Tarsmith, tar farmer, and tar herder are the best, IMO. They describe the work well. Tar coordinator would be good too, but it sounds too bureaucratic.

Tarmaster sounds too much like an evil overlord. Tarmancer sounds like someone who uses magic to control the tar.

Tarchiver is a funny word, but it doesn't really fit. Tar wrangler sounds like he's fighting the tar or something.

Tar guy would be good as an informal expression, but I wouldn't use it as the actual job name. Other is a somewhat unusual name, and I'm not sure whether I like it.

I have one suggestion myself, but it might fit better as an insult. How about tar father?

But then he'd have to marry a tar mother, and nobody would like that. :D

Looks like you're going to need more poll options there. The amount of stuff you're coming up with is tarriffic! However, there's no way I could stuff that many puns into one sentence without groaning myself to death. ;)
