I was pleasantly surprised to see the (undocumented?) feature that, if you press the "alt" key while in the editor, it shows you what the NPC characters appear as ingame. There are a few bugs with it, though--

(a) After you place a character, its ingame appearance won't be shown until you've left the room and come back (i.e. going back to the editor screen or pressing 'F5' to test the room).

(b) Characters with custom images show as their base character types, rather than their custom-image types.
